Agriculture Commissioner Steve Troxler sits down each week with the Southern Farm Network’s Rhonda Garrison to discuss “Today’s Topic.”
This week Rhonda and Commissioner Troxler talk about the sixth annual Commissioner’s Food Safety Forum, scheduled for Aug. 10 at the State Fairgrounds.
The forum will run from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. It’s free, and lunch will be served. More than 300 farmers, food manufacturers and retailers, and government scientists will get together in the Expo Center at the fairgrounds to learn more about food safety.
Keynote speakers will be Dr. Jim Gorny with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration; Dr. Robert Tauxe from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention; and Dr. Dan Engeljohn with the USDA Food Safety and Inspection Service. Topics will include produce safety, food safety and animal production, and investigations of foodborne disease outbreaks.
In addition, a panel of experts from state government and industry will discuss integrated food systems in North Carolina. And Dr. Ben Chapman of N.C. State University will talk about effective food safety messages.
If you’re interested in attending, you can still register online at www.ncagr.gov/ncfoodsafetyforum. Or call Christina Waggett at (919) 733-7125. The forum is sponsored in part by the N.C. Rural Center’s Agricultural Advancement Consortium.
Listen in as Commissioner Troxler and Rhonda discuss the forum and why food safety continues to be an important topic.
