Chowan County, located in the northeast corner of North Carolina, remains an important peanut producer today, with more than 20 million pounds of peanuts produced in 2008. Along with other top counties like Martin, Bertie and Bladen, it contributes to the 359 million pound total that ranks N.C. in the top five peanut-producing states in the nation.
