The N.C. Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services is offering grants to fund new projects to enhance the competitiveness of specialty crops in the marketplace.

Nearly $1.2 million will be available this year through a competitive process for projects that benefit the specialty crop industry. The program is funded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

The NCDA&CS will accept grant applications from non-profit organizations and corporations, commodity associations, state and local government agencies, colleges and universities. Applicants must reside in North Carolina, or their business or university must be in North Carolina. Applicants can apply for $10,000 to $100,000. Applications are due by 5 p.m. Friday, June 4.

Listen in as Commissioner Troxler and Rhonda Garrison talk about the crops that are eligible for the program, how producers can apply for them, and how the department is also helping specialty crop producers through its Flavors of Carolina food shows.
