The State Building Commission recently honored designers and contractors for outstanding achievement in state construction projects, and one of the companies has a connection to the NCDA&CS.

Perry Bartsch Jr. Construction Co.  of Asheville received a Certificate of Merit for its work on the Virginia C. Boone Mountain Heritage Center at the WNC Agricultural Center in Fletcher.

The building opened for the 2009 Mountain State Fair. The 12,000-square-foot, log-frame building showcases crafts from the Blue Ridge Mountains and houses artisans during the fair. During non-fair times the building is available for rent to the public for shows, receptions, reunions and other events.

The building is named for Virginia Boone, a Mountain State Fair exhibitor who has been braiding rugs for more than 60 years.
