We have all heard, and sometimes used, peach clichés – “it’s a peach of a day,” “everything’s peachy,” “peachy keen,” etc. From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. tomorrow in Raleigh, however, those sayings will ring true: Thursday is the State Farmers Market’s annual Peach Day. The newly crowned North Carolina Peach Queen will be there, along with free peach samples, recipes and ice cream.
My favorite part of Peach Day is the peach dessert contest. The competition is a chance for culinary creators of all ages to flaunt homemade treats featuring any of the 70 varieties of peaches grown in North Carolina. Judging for the contest starts before the rest of the festivities at 10 a.m.
If you are just hearing about the contest, don’t worry. It is not too late to enter. All entries must be received Thursday between 8 and 10 a.m. at the State Farmers Market office. The competition is open to children and adults, so pack up the kids, go buy some peaches, bake something delicious, bring it by the State Farmers Market tomorrow and stay for the rest of the fun.
It’s going to be a peach of a day.
