We have an extensive collection of photos taken over the N.C. Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services’ history. In our Photos from the Field posts, we’ll pull some of these snapshots out of our archives and take a look back at pieces of North Carolina’s agricultural heritage. We’ll do our best to research the “who, what, when and wheres” of these photos, but if you have more information, please leave us a comment.

This past weekend, North Carolinians traveled to Raleigh for the Miss North Carolina Pageant. From 1967 to 1973, North Carolinians traveled to White Lake for the annual North Carolina Blueberry Festival. Each festival included several days of food, fun, entertainment and blueberries. A pageant was also held annually in conjunction with the festival. The winning blueberry queen traveled across North Carolina and the country to promote the North Carolina blueberry industry.
Do you have stories about a blueberry queen or another N.C. commodity queen? If so, please feel free to share them with us. We’d love to hear from you.
