Agriculture Commissioner Steve Troxler sits down each week with the Southern Farm Network’s Rhonda Garrison to discuss “Today’s Topic.”
A statewide initiative is making it possible for farmers markets in 12 North Carolina counties to accept Electronic Benefits Transfer card payments from consumers who are in the federal Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, formerly known as food stamps. The 21st Century Farmers’ Markets Program is a partnership between our department and Leaflight Inc., a Chapel Hill non-profit agency that promotes community development. Agriculture Commissioner Steve Troxler explains to Rhonda Garrison how this will help farmers who sell products at farmers markets across the state and give more consumers in N.C. access to fresh, locally grown food. Listen in as they discuss Today’s Topic.
