Welcome to In the Field, a blog about the people and programs of the N.C. Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services. We hope you find this to be an interesting and candid look at our department and the many ways we serve our state’s number one industry – agriculture.
While most people think of the Department of Agriculture as only being relevant to farmers and rural areas of our state, the reality is that most North Carolinians are touched by our department each day. NCDA&CS has a wide variety of regulatory and consumer service functions, such as food and drug safety, inspecting gas pumps and price scanners, conserving plants and beneficial insects, protecting animal health and welfare, and promoting North Carolina commodities.
As a farmer, I’ve seen agriculture grow and change in response to new research and technology advances. More and more, the Internet has become a valuable communication tool for the agriculture industry and the people it serves.
We look forward to your comments and thoughts, and I also encourage you to learn more through the NCDA&CS Web site and our free monthly publication the Agricultural Review. Whether you are a consumer or a farmer, we hope you’ll find interesting and useful information here that will benefit you and your family.
